Vitamins Are Vital and
Minerals Are a Must
In a perfect world we would all eat
a perfectly balanced diet that would provide our bodies with all the
vitamins and minerals we need for perfect health. Unfortunately, the
world isn’t perfect and neither are we. A survey conducted by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture found that only about half of all Americans
eat a piece of fruit a day. The typical American woman doesn’t even
eat the minimum RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for vitamins E or B-6,
or the critical minerals calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.
Vitamins and minerals are essential
to every process that goes on in our bodies, even though as
micro-nutrients we need them in relatively small amounts compared to the
macro-nutrients carbohydrates, proteins, fats and water. Although a
daily multiple vitamin and mineral supplement isn’t meant to replace a
healthful, balanced diet, it can be a good insurance policy for those
times when we don’t eat as well as we should.
Remember, for optimal health:
exercise regularly, reduce stress, eat healthy meals and try a MULTIPLE
CHOICE from Nature’s Life.
Vitamins and Their Benefits
Vitamin A and the carotenoids
enhance immunity, act as
antioxidants and are necessary for new cell growth.* Vitamin A and it is
vital for healthy skin and eyes.* Carotenoids (such as beta carotene)
are converted to vitamin A,
but their primary benefit is their powerful antioxidant protection.*
The B vitamins feed and regulate the
brain and nervous system.* Thiamine (B1) promotes normal nervous system
function, growth and digestion.* Riboflavin (B2) is essential for growth
and eye health.* Niacin
(B3) plays an important role in energy production.*
Pantothenic acid (B5) enhances nutrient metabolism.* Pyridoxine
(B6) enhances immunity, and regulates brain activity and growth.*
Cyanocobalamin (B12) helps form red blood cells and is essential for
proper functioning of the nervous system.* Folic acid helps form DNA,
RNA and red and white blood cells.* Biotin aids fat and protein
metabolism.* Choline aids the brain and central nervous system. It also
helps regulate gallbladder and liver function.* Inositol is a primary
component of cell membranes.*
Vitamin C is an antioxidant required
for tissue growth and repair. It also protects against the harmful
effects of oxidative damage, and enhances immune function.* Vitamin D is
required for the absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus
and is necessary for normal growth, development and maintenance of bones
and teeth.*
Vitamin E is the multi-purpose
antioxidant vitamin necessary to protect the body from free radicals. It
helps maintain healthy nerves and muscles, and promotes healthy skin and
hair.*
Vitamin K is necessary for blood
clotting as well as bone formation and repair.*
Essential Minerals and Their
Benefits
Calcium is vital for strong bones
and teeth. It helps maintain a regular heartbeat and is needed for
muscular growth.* Boron helps in mineral metabolism and works with
calcium, manganese and vitamin D to prevent calcium loss.* Copper aids
in the formation of bone, hemoglobin and red blood cells. It is involved
in the healing process, energy production and is needed for healthy
nerves and joints.* Chromium is needed for normal metabolism of blood
sugar.* Iodine is needed in trace amounts for entire-body metabolism and
normal thyroid function.* Iron
is an essential part of the hemoglobin in red blood cells, which carry
oxygen through-out the body.* Magnesium promotes healthy bone formation,
muscle contraction and energy.*
Manganese is involved in forming
connective tissue, developing normal bone structure and
digesting/utilizing food.* Molybdenum aids in carbohydrate and fat
metabolism and is part of the enzyme responsible for iron utilization.*
Phosphorous aids in growth and body repair, and helps to metabolize fat
and starches.* Potassium is important for a healthy nervous system and a
regular heart rhythm.* Selenium activates the vital enzyme, glutathione
peroxidase, that is needed to protect the body from oxidative damage.*
Zinc assists in muscle development and wound healing. It is also needed
for proper taste and hearing.*
