The ancient asian herb, andrographis has properties that may help in preventing and treating the commons cold, gallstones and blood clotting. Andrographis has been found to prevent arteries from clogging after the surgery angioplasty by the way it responds to calcium. The herb when combined with calcium, alters the way the blood vessels are lined by keeping them open. By taking 200 mg of andrographis a day, one study showed that during the cold season the risk of catching a cold was reduced by over half. It can also relieve runny nose, headache, sore muscles, swollen glands, and fatigue if taking more than 1200 mg per day dosage. Andrographis has also been found to increase bile production and flow and therefore can reduce the chances of gallstone. Men and women should know that this herb can reduce fertility and should be avoided with pregnant or nursing women.
