GABA, an amino acid derivative, is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Rather than stimulating neurons to fire, GABA inhibits neuronal activity. GABA is associated with mental states of calm and serenity, and also promotes muscle relaxation.
GABA also known as gamma-aminobutyric acid has been available on the natural foods market for years. GABA is manufactured in the brain from the amino acid glutamate when in short supply one may experience nervousness and sleepless nights. GABA when administered orally has been shown to induce relaxation and sleep, as well as promote the release of human growth hormone which is naturally produced by the body when we sleep. Don’t get to overly excited, taking to high of a dose can cause anxiety, shortness of breath, and tingling in the hands and feet so don’t take more than the recommended dosage on the bottle and for optimal results take 1 hour before bed time.
